The historic William Tanner House Museum is now festively decorated in holiday finery and is ready to receive visitors for the annual Tanner House Holidays, through December 29. Open days and hours are Sunday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., December 8, 15, 22, and 29; and Friday evenings from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., December 13, 20, and 27.
Volunteers have decorated the entire house. The large parlor features a 12-foot Christmas tree, a doll house, and other decoration. The dining room is laid out for a Christmas feast. A bedroom features a December bride from the 1890s. An upstairs room has been decorated as a World War II Christmas. The kitchen is operating as the gift shop, featuring some of the museum’s favorite holiday gift items for sale.
The Tanner House Museum, operated by the Aurora Historical Society, is located on Aurora’s near west side, at the northwest corner of Oak Avenue and Cedar Street (304 Oak Avenue/305 Cedar Street). Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. After December 29, the Tanner House will close for the season until the Spring.
