With the rapid growth in technology it’s hard to keep up with what’s new, how to use it, and whether or not it’s worth buying. At the Aurora Public Library, we want to provide our customers with the opportunity to express creativity through different media, including technology, and have the opportunity to utilize modern technology without having to buy it themselves.
Therefore, we invite everyone to join us at our Teen Tech Week: Tech-A-Palooza event Saturday, March 9 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Eola Road Branch. Whether you’re a tech super-user or the proud owner of a flip phone, stop at our Tech-A-Palooza event! This teen event is family friendly and does not require registration.
Be prepared to celebrate and explore a wonderland to include gadgets, games, virtual reality, and robots. You will have the opportunity to try new gadgets, see the latest technology in action and learn cool features you can use with each item. If attending the event in person isn’t exciting enough, we will have a virtual reality headset for you to try, as well as a wide variety of tech toys for you to use for play.
Flannery Crump, teen librarian at Eola Road Branch said, “In a world where technology is an increasingly important part of our lives. I think it’s important for us to remember that technology can be fun! Teen Tech Week was created by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) and each year it serves to help libraries highlight the cool tech that we provide for community use. I’m sure many people don’t know that you can enter virtual reality or play with a robot dinosaur at your library, but it’s true!”
Not only are these gadgets fun devices for entertainment, but they’re a great form of learning. Specifically, we will have STEM-themed board games such as Evolution, Prime Climb, and Science Ninja; we’ll have toys such as the Ozobots and Spheros, and we’ll have computers set up with games to play and absorb learning. There will be toys/games with appeal for a wide variety of age groups. If you cannot attend this event and/or want to keep the fun going stop by our Makerspace! The Makerspace is at the Santori Library of Aurora, 101 S. River Street, and offers modern technology to express creativity. For more information on the Makerspace please call 630-264-4203.
