I viewed the calendar. I felt the panic pour.
That everything was happening just like before.
I hardly could believe—anticipating then
In going through the same old routines once again.
Upon my writing this, re-reading the above,
I realize this is but an exercise of love.
Each year we feel that Christmas comes out of the blue;
And with its suddenness its duties fall on you.
We also play the part that time comes much too fast;
Although, inside, we like the holiday to last.
So with the typical commercial thrust we see
We blink our eyes, try not to look (apparently),
But that sets off an inner torment you can weigh—
You realize Christmas now is only weeks away!
