‘Tinsel and Tunes’ a sparkling celebration of magical sounds of the season, Sat., Dec. 20; Diabetes Club of Fox Valley holds annual Holiday party

Members and friends of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley (DCFV) gathered together, Saturday, Dec. 13, for the Club’s fourth annual Holiday Party, at Oak Street Restaurant in North Aurora.

The evening began at 6 p.m., with a social gathering and buffet dinner at 7 p.m..

Following dinner, club member, Arlene Hawks, conducted a group sing-along, of popular Holiday songs. She also informed our group about Hawks Nest Productions, cabaret show “Tinsel and Tunes”, a sparkling celebration of magical sounds of the season, being held Saturday, Dec. 20, at Bit Theater, 4034 Fox Valley Center Drive, in Aurora, with a 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. performance. Tickets available at the door, $20 adults, $10 kids 12 and under, with a portion of each ticket going to charity!

A wrapped gift exchange game was held, as each member chose a wrapped gift, or one that was already opened. Some gifts were passed back and forth many times, until the last gift was opened.

Club member, Paul Buddy, held his “Trivia Challenge” contest, with five levels, rewarding those with correct answers a holiday treat! The correct answers became harder, especially levels four and five!

Door prize drawings were held, with members wining prizes of poinsettia plants, bottles of wine, gift cards, holiday treats, and hats.

Members of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley work together, to raise an awareness of diabetes and prediabetes in the Fox Valley area. Club members also raise funds to provide aid, education and research to find a cure for diabetes.

Nationally, more than 38 million Americans, approximately 12% of our population, have diabetes, including children. Even more concerning, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) estimates that over 97 million individuals in the United States are prediabetic.

Uncontrolled blood sugar (glucose) can cause vision problems, heart problems, nerve damage, dental problems, kidney damage, and loss of limbs. Diet and exercise are two of the most powerful tools we have to help control our blood glucose. Eat healthy, stay active, and have a yearly blood test, to stay diabetes-free!

The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley meets monthly, on the second Wednesday of each month, January through November, at Oak Street Restaurant, 945 Oak Street, in North Aurora. Optional Dinner at 5:30 p.m.. Meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.. Guests are always welcome!

The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization, a true grassroots organization, where all monies raised through dues, donations and fundraising is used in our fight against diabetes. Our Mission is supporting efforts to prevent and find a cure for diabetes. Our Purpose is to raise funds to aid those who work in research and/or education regarding diabetes, and to assist those with diabetes in any way we can. Our vision is to have a world free of diabetes.
