East Aurora and West Aurora High Schools have historically been rivals dating to the annual football game that began in 1893. The game was typically the last game of the year, on Thanksgiving Day, and played on the neutral territory of Hurd’s Island in Aurora.
To celebrate and honor this cross-town tradition and rivalry, the Aurora East Educational Foundation and the A+ Foundation for West Aurora Schools will be host to the fourth annual TOM-A-HAWK 5K Turkey Trot Saturday, Nov. 23. Due to the expected large turnout, there will be three race waves:
•8:45 a.m. – Competitive start (9 minutes & faster)
•9 a.m. – Fun Run start
•9:15 a.m. – Walkers at the Wilder Promenade in Downtown Aurora.
Over the last three years more than $107,000 has been raised for students on both sides of the Fox River. At last year’s race there were 1,053 registrants from seven states and from 78 cities in Illinois.
The FUN Raiser helps both foundations continue to achieve our goals.and will be utilized by both the AEEF and A+ foundations to help support vital programming in assisting the more than 20,000 public school students.
