News notes and thoughts:
It should be fun, especially for train buffs and fans of rides. A gathering at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13 will be at the Aurora Transportation Center, 233 N. Broadway in Aurora, sponsored by the Open Roads ABATE Chapter. The fun run into Chicago will leave promptly at 10:20 a.m. with tickets $12 per person.
•Illinois State representative Stephanie Kifowit recently was a guest on WGN Radio 720 to focus on the Illinois pension system. “(The State General Assembly) takes the pension system seriously,” Kifowit (D-Oswego) said, recently. “In fact, last year we held 15 subject-matter hearings to address this issue.”
•The Aurora Public Library Foundation (APLF will be a part of Summer Reading Adventure in a fun way to keep children learning and their minds growing. There are sponsorship opportunities to help children.
•The Heritage Chorale in Lombard will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a concert at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 215 S. Lincoln in Lombard. Heritage Chorale was founded in 1984 for experienced singers. Admission is free, although a free will offering will be taken. Baritone Douglas Anderson and organist David Jonies will join the Chorale as guest artists.
•Thank you from me for the heartfelt condolences of the death of Donna Crane. See the April 4 edition of The Voice. Some of life’s experiences can put a person to the test. Thank you to Unity of Fox Valley in Batavia, and others, for wonderful assistance.
•An anti-racism workshop will be held 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 14 N. May Street in Aurora. Workshop facilitator will be Richard R. Guzman, emeritus, North Central College. Admission is $15 per person.
