The Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 11 was a good game. Any three-point overtime game should be a good game. Kansas City prevailed over San Francisco, 25-22, in only the Super Bowl overtime game.

Of greater significance to Chicago Bears fans is the quarterback situation. Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes guided the Chiefs to the victory and won his third Super Bowl championship.

What hurts the Chicago Bears is that Mahomes could have been drafted by the Bears in 2017, however, the Bears traded up to No. 2 in the draft to select quarterback Mitch Trubisky. Kansas City traded up to No. 10 to select Mahomes. It means the Bears could have selected Mahomes at No. 2, or, their original pick at No. 3.

The Bears traded up in the draft to take Trubisky at No. 2. Mahomes is a prize to lead his team to the Super Bowl.

Ironically, Trubisky was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday this week. He was playing for his third team, the Bears and Buffalo to start his career. Will he catch on with another team? The question for Mahomes is will he stay with Kansas City, or, will he be lured away by another team’s elevated contract offer.

Simply, the Bears are embarrassed, or, should be embarrassed. Yet, frankly, sports executives often have trouble evaluating talent in college. Still, professional sports executives are paid to well to know their business.

Wait ‘till next year?

There is less money in and less at stake in high school sports. We want to find out why East Aurora High School was forced to forfeit its Saturday afternoon varsity basketball game to rival West Aurora. Not necessarily the specifics, however, the general reason: Discipline, academics, paperwork technicality, another reason?

The truth will come out and it will sting less later at East Aurora and it is unfortunate.

Nonetheless, The Voice was at the game between the two schools as originally scheduled.

Next week the high school boys regional basketball tournaments will be under way. The high school State tournament championship game will be played Saturday, March 9. This week is the girls regional tournaments. Bobby Narang’s report this week is on high school girls wrestling countdown to individual competitors’ championships without team scores.
