Trump’s Big Bill: Is it time to start laughing yet?

To quote an old 1920s song, “The rich get richer and the poor get poorer…ain’t we got fun?” The majority of Republicans in Congress could have used this as their warcry when they passed Trump’s tax bill, celebrated by none other than the felon on July 4, which will result in exactly that.

I’m sorry to say this Fourth of July was the first one in my memory for which I could not work up any feelings of pride or joy in America. And I even lived through the 1960s, so that’s saying a lot. I didn’t put out my flag, thinking that it would show support for Der Fuehrer and his stinkin’ awful tax bill, which he was celebrating the passage of simultaneously with the usual Fourth of July parades around the country.

How could I be joyful and grateful for millions of people losing their healthcare, food stamps, and Medicaid? Mr. Sympathy, Mitch “The Turtle” McConnell, said, “They’ll get over it.” Vice president JD Vance said it’s such a miniscule part of the cuts no one should be concerned about it. Yeah? Tell that to the people affected, such as your own hillbilly family, for instance, JD.

How can I extend my gratitude for the top 1% of the wealthiest Americans getting their trillions in tax cuts? Speaker Mike Johnson, said this bill will boost production of goods being manufactured in the U.S. and create more jobs. He and many other of his congressional dimwits were too young or conveniently chose to forget the 1980s and Ronald Reagan’s tax cuts for the wealthy that were supposed to put into play the trickle down effect, which is: Corporate execs would have more money to expand facilities requiring more employees who would then see increases in their paychecks due to the increased corporate earnings. Au contraire, my dear children.

I remember the actual results even if those flat-earthers in Congress don’t. The CEOs and corporate heads added 99% of the tax savings to their own bloated bank accounts and let the remaining 1% trickle down to be divided up between manufacturing improvements and wage increases. This is when the wide division between the wealthy and the middle and lower classes began and now continues with a vengeance. Take a look at a graph charting the earnings between the wealthy and the rest of us, say, starting from 1960 and ending with 2025, if you don’t believe me.

I don’t want to paint all of the rich people as money-grabbing, soulless, selfish trash like Trump and his offspring (I’d like to, but I don’t want to). Just yesterday I was talking to a friend in Beverly Hills who lives among the wealthy. The male and female halves of a well-off married couple of the human persuasion she knows (the big diamonds and gold Rolex watch type of humans) are Trump despisers and think his bill is awful. They said they don’t want or need more tax cuts. They already have all they require and any income over and above that they donate to charity.

Another friend of mine is a lead actor in a current Netflix series. His agent recently got him a $25,000 bonus. He thanked her, then donated the whole thing to the American Cancer Society. In at least two emails per week, he badmouths Trump and what he’s done to the country and how he can get away with it.

In six months the president has managed to destroy six decades of progress the USA has made in racial equality, healthcare, education, the environment, and help for the less fortunate here and around the world.

With the dismantling of the US Aid program, an estimated 14 million people worldwide will eventually die. Measles, once thought to be completely eradicated, has reached an all time high in outbreaks. Racial history is being rewritten to show how slavery benefitted the country and downplay the cruelty. Even the lone black Medal of Honor winner’s name has been removed from the official website (Trump is such an obvious racist and bigot I’m surprised more attention hasn’t been devoted to this).

The value of the U.S. dollar has fallen to its lowest point in more than 50 years. And all of this has happened in just six months under Trump. Because of him Germany has decided to spend more on their military to hopefully become the biggest military power in Europe. Who knows? The Germans struck out twice before. Their third time at bat may be their lucky charm.

Ain’t we got fun.
