In a perfect world, libraries would be open 24/7. But alas, our books (and staff) need their beauty sleep. Luckily, our digital collection never closes! With your Aurora Public Library District (APLD) card, you have round-the-clock access to amazing resources like PressReader—no matter the time or day. Whether you’re a night owl catching up on global news or just want to flip through your favorite magazine on a lazy Sunday morning, PressReader is ready when you are. It’s just one of the many ways APLD connects you to the world, anytime, anywhere.
PressReader is a powerful digital resource offering unlimited access to more than 7,000 newspapers and magazines from more than 120 countries, in more than 60 languages. From international headlines to cultural publications and specialty magazines, PressReader connects you to a world of content that supports literacy and lifelong learning. “PressReader broadens information access for multicultural and multilingual communities, like Aurora,” said digital services senior manager, Himanshu. “It helps people stay connected to news from their home countries and offers audio and translation features that enhance accessibility.”
Our customers love the convenience and variety of publications offered. Over the last six months, almost 100,000 articles have been viewed by APLD users! One customer, Ravi, shared how PressReader helped his visiting parents from India feel at home by reading The Indian Express and Great Thinkers of India. They even read cultural stories to their grandchildren, connecting generations through reading and shared heritage—all thanks to access through APLD.
But it’s not all serious news—PressReader is also packed with fun reads and guilty pleasures. Dive into popular magazines like Rolling Stone, The Hollywood Reporter, Us Weekly, and GQ to catch up on the latest celebrity gossip. It even offers crosswords puzzles, sudoku, and brain teasers to help your mind unwind. You can also ‘bookmark’ pages and articles to save for a later date. “I have a bookmark for a craft project from a magazine that I saved a few years ago in PressReader, and it’s great to be able to keep that handy,” said reader services coordinator and PressReader user, Becky. Whether you’re into crafts, fashion, fitness, music, or just need a quick mental break, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Using PressReader is easy: Simply log in through the library’s website or PressReader app with your APLD library barcode number and PIN, and begin browsing on your phone, tablet, or computer. You can read online or download issues for offline access. “I love being able to have the newest issues of my publications download automatically in the PressReader app,” added Becky. “I don’t have to go searching for the newest issue and it reduces the number of print magazines cluttering up my house!” PressReader is one of many digital resources available with your APLD card. Other apps include Libby (for eBooks and audiobooks), Hoopla (for movies, music, and comics), Freegal (for music), and Tumblebook Library (for children’s books and read-alongs). All these resources offer 24/7 access, making them especially valuable when the library is closed or not accessible to customers.
From staying current with global news in PressReader to streaming a movie or learning a new skill, APLD’s digital resources support your reading, learning, and entertainment needs—anytime, anywhere.
