Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement Monday, Aug. 10 in response to widespread delivery delays at the United States Postal Service (USPS):
“The growing delays affecting USPS customers are unacceptable and a direct result of deliberate actions by the Donald Trump administration designed to weaken USPS. These delays are especially dangerous for people who rely on USPS for timely delivery of lifesaving medications, and they are damaging to small businesses that use USPS to deliver goods to their customers.
“As we approach a national election in the midst of a pandemic, it is essential that voters can trust USPS to deliver mail-in ballots on time for people who want to exercise their right to vote from home while protecting themselves from exposure to COVID-19. All voters, regardless of political persuasions, should have confidence that their vote will be counted whether they choose to vote in-person, or from home.”
Last week, congressman Foster joined all Democratic Party members of the Illinois congressional delegation in a letter to postmaster general, DeJoy, urging immediate corrective action to alleviate postal delays.
