
“One is Never Enough!” an exhibit by Aurora’s Mid-West Early American Pressed Glass Club, is open at Santori Aurora Public Library, 101 S. River St.. The display is free to the public on the library’s third floor during visit hours.
Featured are 27 pieces on loan from nine club members to April 30. Included are Wedgewood, Fostoria, Dickens Village porcelain, Christmas ornaments, 1880 wedding crystal and items by Aurora Silver Plate Co..
Founded in 1933, the 32-member club studies and displays pressed glass to preserve objects of historic interest connected with early home life of America. Celebrating its 80th anniversary, the library exhibit case was installed in 1946. It showcases rotating exhibits and information about members’ collections.
The club was formed in 1933 by Aurorans and collectors Mrs. Justus Johnson, Mrs. H. D. Hallett, Mrs. Carl Grometer and Mrs. William Berry. Some 200 pieces collected by Johnson were displayed at the Chicago Art Institute and accepted for permanent display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
