Continuing her advocacy for brave women veterans who serve or previously served in our armed forces, State representative Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, will be host to a Virtual Women’s Veteran Event at 10 a.m. Friday, June 12, through Zoom.
“As a Veteran of the Marine Corp, I understand how important it is that we recognize all the brave women who have served our country for generations and who have paved the way for women who are a big part of our armed forces today,” said Kifowit. “I am honored to have such amazing guests to contribute to our discussion about the past, present, and future history of women serving our country.”
Kifowit recently was elected president for The Chicagoland chapter of the Women Marines Association, a nationwide non-profit organization comprised of women who have served in the United States Marine Corps. She will be joined by Nikita Richards, a United States Navy veteran and chair of leadership and inclusion on the Illinois Council on Women and Girls, Melissa Bayan, and 18 year Veteran of the United States Air Force; and special guest Helen Ehlers, a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946.
“I continue to be motivated by all our amazing veterans who have served our country with respect, dignity and bravery,” said Kifowit. “This event is a way to amplify the voices of women who have served in our military and I would encourage everyone to tune in and learn from some of our very best.”
