Language is important.
Using language is greater than correct sentence structure or use of a proper noun.
Language conveys thoughts, feelings, a communication of ideas with other persons in our environment and those potentially in our environment.
That is why it was important to hear and understand those participants in our national political dialogue recently were quick to say that all sides should tone down the accusatory rhetoric following the shooting by rifle of former president and apparent Republican Party candidate, Donald Trump. Mr. Trump appeared earlier this week to be in position to accept the Republican Party nomination for president. Language is important and it was gratifying to hear candidate Trump admit that toning down rhetoric is important. Yet, perhaps in a carryover of political language, shortly after Trump was wounded by a 20-year-old young man, who was instantly killed by law enforcement members, one ardent supporter of Trump said in a live television news program that president Joe Biden, “is unfit to be president.”
Such conditioned-reflex language is out of place. Each person is entitled to an opinion on a candidate. That’s the American way. Receiving endorsements automatically makes candidates fit for office if the candidate meets the required standards to hold office. Without going into the verbal flaws and presumptions of candidates’ supporters our society can be better served by improved language which includes respectful narratives.
•We at The Voice make efforts to offer sincere and positive thoughts to our readers. Dwelling in negativity may be a bit sensational, however, unproductive in the long run. The reader this week and every week, can find information which leads to better understanding. There is international news in Hungary, a country that historically has been in constant turmoil. Memories of the previous U.S. success in the Olympic Games. Photos of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley, Fox Valley Habitat, and high school football linemen workouts.
•This week is the Republican Party National Convention. The Democratic Party Convention will be August 19-22. Other parties will hold selection processes which must be understood and honored. We can be a better country if we so choose.
