Wear Orange Day, Friday, June 4, supported efforts to end gun violence in our country and community. Aurorans and visitors gathered outside of Aurora City Hall during the June First Fridays event for Proclamation Presentation Ceremony where a proclamation was issued by mayor Richard C. Irvin for National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Survivors of gun violence, such as Dorothy Johnson-Linner and Hortencia Ramos, shared heartbreaking stories of how gun violence claimed the lives of their relatives and how it impacted their families forever. They were joined by Steve McHugh, co-lead of Moms Demand Action for Kane and Kendall Counties, and U.S. congressman Bill Foster to emphasize the statistics around gun violence and why changes need to be made immediately. Aurora Alderman-at-large Ron Woerman, 49th District State representative Maura Hirschauer, parents, children and concerned community members were in attendance as well.
