Are you fascinated by storms, curious about climate change, or just love talking about the weather? Then the upcoming Weather & Storm Chasing 101 program at the Aurora Public Library District is sure to blow you away! The event will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Santori Library, 101 S. River Street, Aurora, will dive into local climatology, how to prepare for severe storms, and includes thrilling stories about storm chasing that will have you on the edge of your seat.
The program is presented by Storm Science, a group dedicated to making weather education fun and interactive. Storm Science collaborates with Illinois Storm Chasers, an organization with more than 350,000 followers across the state! Together, they bring decades of storm-chasing and public-speaking experience to the table. On their website, stormscience.org, owner Nick Bartholomew discusses his lifelong fascination with weather. He started chasing local storms as a teen the moment he earned his driver’s license and has documented approximately 50 tornadoes in his career so far. Nick and his team’s personal accounts are expected to captivate the audience and help bring science to life.
The idea for the program came naturally, inspired by the increasing coverage of extreme weather in the news. “This is an important program to offer our customers because the topic is relevant to our customers’ everyday lives,” says Library Assistant Colleen. “It will also be good for those who would like to know more about how to prepare for extreme weather.” And who doesn’t love a good storm story? The program will feature true tales from the Storm Science team—think tornadoes, hailstorms, and maybe even a few lightning strikes. “Attendees can look forward to hearing about true storm events and exciting stories about storm chasing,” Colleen said, adding an extra layer of excitement.
So, grab your umbrella, mark your calendar, and get ready for a whirlwind of weather knowledge and adventure! Weather & Storm Chasing 101 will be Wednesday, Jan. 22. No registration required.
