Wellness Works 2019 Sept. 20 in Aurora

Fox Valley leaders in public safety, human resources and nutrition and wellness will address employers in the sixth Wellness Works conference sponsored by the Healthy Living Council of Greater Aurora.

Wellness Works 2019 will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept, 20, at the Prisco Community Center in Aurora.

The forum will offer information and ideas on providing a healthier workspace for employees. Exhibitors from throughout Northern Illinois will give insight and information on available workplace wellness opportunities.

Topics for the Wellness Works speakers include:

• “Addressing Volatile Behavior in the Work Place”, by Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain. Hain was elected as Kane County Sheriff in 2018, after serving with the Sheriff’s Office since 2003. In his time with Kane County department, Hain has had a variety of roles, including SWAT Team Assistant Team Leader, Narcotic K-9 Handler, Drug Enforcement Investigator and Police Supervisor. He was twice named the Sheriff’s Department Deputy of the Year. Hain has 24 years of public safety experience in the Chicago area.

• “Creating a Positive Culture – Communication Matters”, by Lisa Santoria. Santoria, Human Resources Manager for the Fox Valley Park District, is passionate about creating happier and healthier lives for everyone she comes in contact with. She adds add humor to all her presentations. Outside of work she teaches aerobics and is a huge Cubs and Bears fan.

• “Exploring Current Diet Trends”, by Laura Barr. Barr is the Nutrition & Wellness Educator for the University of Illinois Extension, based in St. Charles. Barr is dedicated to engaging individuals and organizations to adopt healthier life-styles through diet and physical activity, providing guidance in health practices to maintain health and avoid chronic disease. She has 20 years of experience in bringing evidence-based nutrition education to communities in Illinois.

The cost of the conference is $25 ($30 after Sept. 6), and includes a healthy and tasty lunch.
