Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has selected its newest Scout executive. After an extensive interviewing process conducted by the Council’s Selection Committee, the Council has announced that Ronald (Ron) A. Wentzell has been selected for the role of Scout executive.
Three Fires Council’s president, Brian Caputo, said “The Council’s Selection Committee chose Ron based upon his extensive experience as a Scouting professional, 26 years, as well as his outstanding leadership and administrative skills. We are thrilled to have an individual of Ron’s caliber lead our Council into the future.”
Ron began his Scouting career in 1997 as an Exploring executive at Three Fires Council. He successively served as the finance director, field director, director of development, director of support services, and director of field service, all with Three Fires Council.
For the last four months, he has served as the Interim Scout Executive for the Council. Ron Wentell is an Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. Throughout his Scouting career, Ron has helped the Council achieve many successes, ranging from increasing Scouting enrollment among local youth, spearheading a successful and safe camp program following the COVID pandemic, leading the Council’s annual million dollar popcorn sale campaign for many years, creating and ways for Scouts with disabilities to enjoy the program fully.
When asked what he looks forward to achieving in his new role, Ron Wentzell said, “My vision is for the Council to ascend higher and be a leader in program, development, membership, volunteerism, youth safety, and community leadership where we are the lighthouse Council for training, local camping programs, and community outdoor education programs.”
Three Fires Council headquarters is in St. Charles, Ill. and was formed in 1925. It serves more than 7,000 youth throughout Kane, DuPage, Kendall, DeKalb Counties, and parts of Will and Cook Counties. Local communities are divided into three volunteer districts. Three Fires Council boasts Camp Big Timber Elgin.
