Picture this: You’re standing in front of a bookshelf (or scrolling endlessly through Goodreads), sighing because you just finished a great book and now you have no idea what to read next. Do you risk another mystery that might fizzle out or reread that comfort romance for the fourth time? All readers have been there, and that’s where Book Match, Aurora Public Library District’s book-finding service, comes in!

Book Match introduces you to titles that fit your specific criteria. “It’s a personalized reading list just for you, and it helps you discover all the great books waiting in our collection,” said reader’s services coordinator, Becky C. Instead of letting a social media algorithm push the same five titles at you, Book Match caters titles to exactly what you’re looking for. “Sometimes readers want books that capture the same mood as a favorite TV show, or they’re looking for that jaw-dropping twist that keeps them turning pages,” Becky said. “I love the challenge of finding books that might fit that vibe. It’s like a treasure hunt!”

Requesting a Book Match is simple. Fill out the form on our website to tell us your reading preferences. What genres do you love? Which authors can you not get enough of? What turns you off in a story? What kind of feeling do you want from your next read? Once you hit submit, our librarians will get to work. Within a week, you’ll receive a list of 10 handpicked titles chosen just for you from APLD’s collection. “We also tailor the list to the formats you prefer—so if you really enjoy listening to eAudiobooks on your phone or you prefer Large Print, we’ll select titles that come in that format,” added Becky.

Book Match is ideal for stumped readers who don’t know what to read next, series fans waiting for their favorite author’s next release, busy readers who don’t have time to browse the stacks, and especially introverts who want expert book advice without the pressure of a face-to-face chat. “Every reader is different, and you never have to feel guilty if one of our picks doesn’t really work for you. You can just move on to the next book on your Book Match list,” said Becky.

The results speak for themselves. One reader who wanted more inclusive science fiction wrote back to say the list was “exactly what I had in mind, but needed that push to pick them up.” Another emailed Becky after finishing each book on her list, just to share how much she loved every pick. “We love getting to flex our ‘book recommendation muscles’ and connect with readers across the community,” added Becky.
