Given the snow earlier this week, appropriate sports talk, prose, thoughts, should focus on skiing, ice skating, or snowmobiling.
Those Winter sports once were held in greater numbers by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), or, at least within, or, between State high schools.
Now those three Winter sports are considered more recreational, or, activities, and less a focus on competition. Insurance costs may have been partly responsible.
Mostly those sports involve ball competition and it may be the easiest to regulate. Good, interpersonal, activities with a ball, is directly a sport.
Super Bowl is not one of three interpersonal sports such as skiing, skating, snowmobiling. It is a stretch in any case to be made of the IHSA in snowmoiling.
•Michigan University certainly upheld the honor of the Big Ten Conference with its 35-13 victory against the University of Washington in football.
•The Big Ten is in a growth pattern with addition in the next two years of four schools, Washington, Oregon, UCLA, and USC.
•What kind of a huge group will it be with growth from 12 schools to 16 and go from the East Coast to the West Coast? Will there be only four or five conferences?
•Can the University of Illinois and Northwestern University keep at, or near the top, of the men’s basketball Big Ten (12) Conference standings this season?
•Will the Chicago Bears ultimately be considered at least partially successful with a season record of 7-10 and tied for third place, or, last place in the NFC North?
•Are the Bears young enough, talented enough, growth oriented, to move up next season, a difficult process, or, will they decide to revamp too much and slip?
•Will West Aurora High School be among the improving boys basketball teams to maintain a grip on the high school top 25 rankings
Answers to many questions will evolve over the course of the season in many ways. We will watch.
