Woman’s Club of Aurora, domestic violence awareness

The October 14 meeting of the Woman’s Club of Aurora will feature speaker, Trisha Schafer of Princeton. Ms Schafer is the outreach & facilities manager of Freedom House, domestic and sexual violence shelter. She currently serves as state president of GFWC Illinois, affiliated with General Federation of Woman’s Clubs. She is GFWC chairman of Domestic Violence Awareness Signature Program in Washington, D.C. Aurora area members, chaired by Suzanne Girardin, provided items locally to Lifespring on the recent GFWC National Day of Service for this project.

The October 14 meeting called Purple Tuesday signifying color representing Domestic Violence Awareness, will be held at noon at Lincoln Inn Banquets, 1345 S Batavia Avenue, Batavia. President Peggy Quirin will present a $430 check to a Mutual Ground Staff Member honoring Mutual Ground’s Anniversary. This check is in addition to the $700 in school supplies donated. Club members filled backpacks for the children of Mutual Ground clients and attended the 50th Anniversary Birthday Bash at Waubonsee College.

Club members are making plans for “Harvesting Hope” a Bunco fundraiser Tuesday, Oct. 28, 11:30 a.m. at Prisco Center, 150 W Illinois Ave., Aurora. The event will benefit the many philanthropies and scholarships of the club.

Included with Bunco games will be lunch, sweet treats and various other opportunities to raise funds. The public is welcome to attend, reservations may be made on club website or by contacting a member. A collection of canned goods that day will be delivered to Two Rivers Head Start Food Pantry.

Guests are welcome to attend the monthly programs and meetings at noon on the second Tuesdays at Lincoln Inn Banquets, Route 31. Reservations are required.
