State representative Barbara Hernandez, D-Hernandez, will join with ACLU Illinois for a town hall meeting to discuss women’s reproductive health care legislation at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 1 E. Benton Street in Aurora.
Hernandez and ACLU Illinois will discuss legislation to repeal the Parental Notification of Abortion (PNA). Illinois’ PNA law states that any person under the age of 18 seeking an abortion must notify their legal guardian 48 hours prior. Research and case studies have demonstrated that forced parental involvement laws like this put young people at risk for physical or emotional abuse, being kicked out of the house, alienation from their families or being forced to continue a pregnancy against their will.
“With access to reproductive rights and abortion care under attack across the country and in the Supreme Court, we look forward to joining Representative Hernandez to talk about what we can do in Illinois to protect and ensure access to every person in Illinois,” said Khadine Bennett, director of advocacy and intergovernmental affairs with ACLU Illinois.
