Morris Hospital has expanded the services provided at its Yorkville Campus with the addition of Kelly Lopez, a family nurse practitioner who serves as a primary care provider for patients of all ages. In addition, the hours for the walk-in convenient care service at the Morris Hospital Yorkville Campus have expanded to 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays.
As a family nurse practitioner, Lopez is an excellent resource for routine check-ups, preventive medicine, immunizations and physicals, illness and injuries, nutrition and lifestyle counseling, and health risk assessments for children, adolescents, adults and seniors. She has more than 20 years’ experience as a registered nurse, including recent experience as a nurse practitioner in the emergency department and immediate care settings.
“I truly enjoy being able to focus on preventive medicine in the primary care setting,” said Lopez, whose office hours extend into the late afternoon and early evening. “My focus is keeping my patients healthy so they hopefully can avoid visits to an urgent care or emergency care setting.”
Having lived in Aurora most of her life, Lopez is married and a mother of two sons. Considering her duties as both a mother and nurse practitioner, she loves caring for families and people of all ages.
In her role as a family nurse practitioner, Lopez believes it is essential to treat the whole patient and not just the disease. She is committed to wellness with a holistic approach.
“I strive to build trusting, open relationships so I can give patients all the information that they need to make informed health decisions,” she says. “As their primary care provider, I want to keep them healthy. I believe focusing on their wellness is key.”
Lopez received her master’s degree in nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner certificate from Chamberlain University. She has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Purdue University and is board certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
