Yorkville Library resumes operating hours; youth will be served

The Yorkville Public Library Youth Service Department will have many events in November. All events will take place at the Library, 902 Game Farm Road. For more information, or to register, call 630-553-4354 or visit www.yorkville.lib.il.us.

• Yorkville Public Library has returned to regular operating hours. The Library is open Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Face-coverings must be worn in the building. Curb-side service is available for those who do not want to enter the Library.

• Every Monday in November at Yorkville Public Library, Crafts To Go!

Craft kits are available each Monday in the Library foyer while supplies last. Weekly themes for craft kits include dinosaurs, Veterans Day, and turkeys. Limit one kit per child.

• Every Friday on YPL Facebook, Drop In Story Time virtual

Each Friday morning Ms Jennette will read a story on Yorkville Public Library Facebook.

• Every Thursday in November, Build Day Challenge (virtual)

Every Thursday during November we will post a building challenge on our Facebook page and YPL website on the calendar. Participants can use Legos, paper, blocks, sticks…. anything to meet the challenge. Share your creation with a family member.

• Virtual 3-D Printing

Leah English will provide a step- by-step tutorial on how to use Tinkercad. Tinkercad is an easy to use 3D CAD design tool, where you can create an object that we can print on our 3-D printer. Check out the Library’s website to link to the YPL YouTube channel, follow the steps to create your own 3D printed piece. Print cost is $.20 per gram.

• Book Club first and second grade, Thursday, Nov. 5 and 12 at 4:30 p.m. at the Yorkville Public Library,

In this two session book club, we will read the book, “Bones and the Apple Pie Mystery” by David Adler. This is an easy reader chapter book. Please register for both days on the YPL website. *Face masks and social distancing are required.

• Friday, Nov. 6 and 20, 10:30 a.m., at Yorkville Public Library, Drop In Story Time (at YPL)

Drop In Story Time with Ms. Jennette will be held in our large meeting room, the Michelle Pfister Room. Face masks and social distancing are required.

• YA Teen Book Club at the Yorkville Public Library, Friday, Nov. 6 at 3 p.m..

Leah English will lead the group in a discussion about this month’s book, “The Light in Hidden Places” by Sharon Cameron. The book is at the Youth Service desk for pick up prior to November 6. Please contact Leah at lenglish@yorkville.lib.il.us if you have any questions.

• Tuesday, Nov. 10 and 24, 4:30 p.m. at the Yorkville Public Library, Book Club, third through fifth grade.

In this two session book club, the participants will receive the book “Miss Daisy is Crazy!” by Dan Gutman November 10. Then it will be discussed at the following session November 24. Please register for both days on the YPL website. Face masks and social distancing are required.

• Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 2:45 p.m., TAG (Teen Advisory Group) at the Yorkville Public Library

Teens in grades eighth through 12 get together to share ideas about the teen area in the Library. They help create and plan programs. This group also has opportunities to earn volunteer hours. Great chance to meet new people and have some fun and laughs. Face masks and social distancing are required.

• Thursday, Nov. 19, Family Read Night.

Family Read Night is celebrated throughout Illinois. It is an evening when families stay home and read together. This year we ask everyone to send pictures of your family reading. We post them in the library. Please send your pictures to jweiss@yorkville.lib.il.us.

• Window Art at the Yorkville Public Library, November 30 through December 4

We are asking our young patrons to liven up the library for winter. If interested, you can request a window space to decorate, simply call the library at 630-553-4354 ext. 108 for a time. Space is limited.

• Polar Express, Saturday, Dec. 5 at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., or 1 p.m..

Kids can listen to the story, “Polar Express” by Chris Van Allsburg. Children will write letter to Santa, which the library will mail. This program will be held in the Michelle Pfister Room. Please register on the YPL website. Each session is limited to a total of 15 persons. Face masks and social distancing are required.
