The Yorkville Public Library Youth Service Department will have many events in October. All events will take place at the Library, 902 Game Farm Road, unless otherwise noted. For more information, or to register, call 630-553-4354 or visit www.yorkville.lib.il.us.

Escape Room Adventure

This Escape Adventure will be available in the month of October. Use the clues to unlock the boxes before the next group comes in, you only have 30 minutes. Contact the Youth Service Department for an appointment time at 630-553-4354 ext 108 or stop in.

3D Printing (virtual)

Leah English provides a step-by-step tutorial on how to use Tinkercad. Tinkercad is an easy-to-use 3D CAD design tool, where you can create an object that we can print on our 3D printer. Check out the library’s YouTube channel, follow the steps to create your own 3D printed piece. 3D Prints are $.20/gram

Drop In Story Time (at YPL), Every Friday at 10:30 a.m.

Join us at YPL every Friday at 10:30 a.m. for Drop In Story Time. This story time is held in the Children’s area of the library. A volunteer from The Friends of the Library is our special reader.

Chess Club, Every Saturday through October 26, 11 a.m..

Register for any or all of the chess classes. Instructor, Tash Uray will provide instruction for beginners and advanced players.

Y115 Read Aloud Pajama Party, Thursday, Oct. 3 at 6:45pm (zoom)

Author/Illustrator Lauren Stohler will read her book, “I am a Great Friend!” to everyone via zoom. Get in your pajamas and curl up on your favorite chair to hear this delightful book. Be sure to have a pencil and paper available for the draw-a-long. You can find the zoom link on the YPL website under Calendar of Events. We can’t wait to read with you!

Window Art, October 7-12

Help us liven up the library with window art. You can come in anytime/any day, October 7-12, to create your artwork. Please register for the event on the website. Space is limited.

Mommy and Me Yoga, Tuesday, Oct. 8 and 22, 10:30 a.m..

Bond with your little one while exploring yoga, based on your favorite children’s books. This class includes simple breathing work, playful yoga poses, songs, games, and story time. Participants will use their imagination while increasing strength, flexibility, and balance. Registration required.

Preschool Zone, Wednesday, Oct. 9, 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m..

Join us for interactive and engaging books plus activities for you and your child. Both programs today are the same.

Book Club (Grades 1-2), Wednesday, Oct. 9 and 16, 4:30 p.m..

In this two-session book club, we will read an easy reader chapter book. Please register for both dates on the YPL website.

Tots & Toddlers, Thursday, Oct. 10, at 10:30 a.m..

Join us for songs, stories, and dancing. Your child will receive a take home craft to complete. Please register on the YPL website.

Fall Art, Thursday, Oct. 10, 10:30 a.m..

We are creating “stain glass” artwork. You can bring your own design or use one of ours. This project involves permanent markers so dress for the mess. Please register on the YPL website.

Chalk the Walk, Friday, Oct. 11, 11 a.m..

Join us for Drop in Story Time and stay for Chalk the Walk. We will decorate the sidewalks outside the front entrance of the library.

LEGO Kits, October 14-19

Come by the library during open hours the week of September 16th. We will provide you a themed container of various LEGOs to use in the library. Using only the bricks provided and your creativity, make your build. Your creation will be added to the LEGO display at the library.

Book Club (grades 3-5), Monday, Oct. 14 and 28, 4:30 p.m..

In this two session book club, the participants will receive the book on the first day to read at home. Then it will be discussed at the following session. Please register for both days on the YPL website.

Junior Threads & More, Tuesday, Oct. 15, 1 p.m..

Do you crochet, knit, needlepoint, sew, or quilt? Come hang out and work on your unfinished projects, show off finished projects, or check out what other people are doing.

Teen Advisory Group, Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2:45 p.m..

Teens in grades 8-12 get together to share ideas about the teen area in the library. They will help create and plan programs. This group also has opportunities to earn volunteer hours. Great chance to meet new people and have some fun and laughs.

Toddler Play, Wednesday, Oct. 16, 10:30 a.m..

Caregivers and littles stop by to play at the library and meet new friends. No registration needed.

Teen Cookie Decorating, Thursday, Oct. 17, 4 p.m..

Teens and pre-teens: Let’s decorate! Mrs. Bethany will teach specialized techniques needed to create beautiful, delicious treats. All materials are provided except a container to take home your creations. Please register on the YPL website.

Biz Boo, Saturday, Oct. 19, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m..

Trick or treat around the city of Yorkville at businesses, including the library!

Pumpkin Decorating Contest Drop-Off, Monday, Oct. 21.

Feel free to use paint, glue, paper, to decorate your pumpkin. Please do not cut into the pumpkin.

Drop off your no-carve pumpkin starting Monday, Oct. 21; voting begins October 23 – October 30. The pumpkin with the most votes wins a prize.

Literacy Centers, Tuesday, Oct. 22 through Friday, Oct. 25.

Stop by anytime Tuesday – Thursday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to experience a parent/child guided opportunity for hands-on literacy instruction. Literacy centers are designed to give children ample opportunity to practice the very important skills of listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

Scholarships, Grants, and Loans Webinar, Tuesday, Oct. 22, 6:30 p.m.

Raising Your Voice With Jason Reynolds, Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m..

Join us for this very special Zoom event with Jason Reynolds, #1 New York Times bestselling author, advocate, mentor, and 2020-2022 National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. Family Friendly Halloween Trivia Night, Thursday, Oct. 24, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m..

Fun for the whole family with this Halloween-themed, family-friendly trivia game from Baig of Tricks Entertainment. Form your family team and come answer questions about Halloween history, movies, music, and TV shows. Top teams may win some exciting prizes.

Read with Paws, Saturday, Oct. 26, 10:30 a.m..

Children can come to the library, select a book, and read to a furry friend. All therapy dogs and handlers have been certified by an accredited organization. This program was designed originally because children feel less pressure to read to a dog than an adult so, it was meant to be a way to help struggling readers or even just encourage reading. It is open to all levels of readers and non-readers. Please register for your 15 minute time slot on the YPL website. Space is limited. If you are unable to attend, please contact the library.

Artful Beginnings (Preschool), Monday, Oct. 28, 10:30 a.m..

Check out this new program. We will read a book then create a fun craft project. Please register. Dress for the mess.

LEGO Meet Up, Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1 p.m..

Join us to make amazing LEGO creations and hang out with others. LEGOs will be provided, you bring the creativity!

Halloween Tots and Toddlers, Wednesday, Oct. 30, 10:30 a.m..

Join us for a story, games, and trick or treating through the library. Dress in your Halloween costume.
