Youth activities at Yorkville Public Library

The Yorkville Public Library Youth Service Department will have many events in MONTH. All events will take place at the Library, 902 Game Farm Road, unless otherwise noted. For more information, or to register, call 630-553-4354 or visit www.yorkville.lib.il.us.

•Escape Room Adventure

This Escape Adventure will be available in the month of August. Use the clues to unlock the boxes before the next group comes in, you only have 30 minutes. Contact the Youth Service Department for an appointment time at 630-553-4354 ext 108 or stop in.

•3D Printing (virtual)

Leah English provides a step-by-step tutorial on how to use Tinkercad. Tinkercad is an easy-to-use 3D CAD design tool, where you can create an object that we can print on our 3D printer. Check out the library’s YouTube channel, follow the steps to create your own 3D printed piece. 3D Prints are $.20/gram

•Drop in Story Time (at YPL), Every Friday at 10:30 a.m.

Join us at YPL every Friday at 10:30 a.m. for Drop In Story Time. This story time is held in the Children’s area of the library. A volunteer from The Friends of the Library is our special reader.

•Get Ready for Kindergarten, Thursday, Aug. 1, 11 a.m.

The Yorkville School District is hosting a variety of engaging literacy-rich experiences for children getting ready for kindergarten. Your future fox cab attend one or all of the sessions! There is no fee but registration is required and group size is limited so register soon.

•3D Printing (In-person), Saturday, Aug. 3, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m..

Thirty minute appointments are available the first Saturday of each month. Sam will provide one on one instruction for Tinkercad and how to create a 3D model. The model will be printed on the 3D Printer. Cost: $0.20 / gram.

•Window Art, August 5-9

Help us liven up the library with window art. You can come in anytime/any day (August 5-9) to create your artwork. Please register for the event on the website. Space is limited.

•All Things Gnome (ages 7-10), Monday, Aug. 5, 10:30 a.m..

There has been a Gnome Take Over at the Yorkville Public Library.

They are everywhere. So let’s celebrate them with all things gnome. We will have gnome books, gnome activities, gnome games, and gnome crafts. Please register if you are able to join, space is limited.

Stop by the library in the month of August for fun gnome activities.

•Family FORT Night, Monday, Aug. 5, 7 p.m.

Family Fort Night is back! Fort building after hours!

Kids, do you like to build forts at home with blankets, pillow, and other supplies? Wouldn’t it be extra cool to build that fort inside Yorkville Public Library and then cozy up with a good book? Here is your chance. Registration is required.

Please bring the supplies you need to build your family fort and a flashlight.

•Color with the Cops, Tuesday, Aug. 6, 10:30 a.m..

The Yorkville Police Department will be at the library hanging out and coloring with you! Register for this fun and unique experience.

•Beautiful Oops Art, Wednesday, Aug. 7, 1:30 p.m.. Ages 7 and older

Join us for the book, “Beautiful Oops” by Barney Saltzberg to discover mistakes can become positives. It is how we look at it. Then you will create your own art work. Registration is required.

•Book Club (grades 1-2), Wednesday, Aug. 7 and 14, 4 p.m..

In this two-session book club, we will read an easy reader chapter book. Please register for both dates on the YPL website.

•BINGO for Books, Thursday, Aug. 8, 1 p.m..

It’s back! Join us for family fun playing BINGO. Each winner will receive a gently used book. Please register online.

•Chalk the Walk, Friday, August 9th at 11:00

Join us for Drop in Story Time and stay for Chalk the Walk. We will decorate the sidewalks outside the front entrance of the library.

•LEGO Kits, August 12-16.

Come by the library during open hours the week of August 12. We will provide you a themed container of various LEGOs to use in the library. Using only the bricks provided and your creativity, make your build. Your creation will be added to the LEGO display at the library. Please register on the YPL website.

•Creek STOMP at Hoover Forest Preserve, Monday, Aug. 12, 9 a.m..

Join us for Story Time at Hoover Forest Preserve, then Ms Kimberly will guide us to a popular creek at Hoover. We will examine the creatures that live in the creek. Creek nets and buckets will be provided. Please dress accordingly, water shoes are highly recommended. Please register, space is limited.

We will meet at Hoover’s Campsite C.

•Book Club (grades 3-5), Monday, Aug. 12 and 26, 4:30 p.m..

In this two session book club, the participants will receive the book on the first day to read at home. Then it will be discussed at the following session. Please register for both days on the YPL website.

•Storybook Yoga (ages 4-10), Tuesday, Aug. 13, 10:30 a.m..

This fun yoga class features a theme based on favorite children’s books. Class includes breath work, playful yoga poses, songs, games, and a story. Participants will use their imagination and increase strength, flexibility and balance. Registration is required.

•4-H Science Explorers, Tuesday, Aug. 13, 1:30 p.m. (ages 6-8)m or 2:15 p.m. (ages 9-12)

•Toddler Play, Wednesday, Aug. 14, 10:30 a.m..

Caregivers and littles stop by to play at the library and meet new friends. No registration needed.

•Junior Threads & More, Tuesday, Aug. 20, 1 p.m..

Do you crochet, knit, needlepoint, sew, or quilt? Come hang out and work on your unfinished projects, show off finished projects, or check out what other people are doing.

•Tots & Toddlers, Thursday, Aug. 22, 10:30 a.m..

Join us for songs, stories, and dancing. Your child will receive a take home craft to complete. Please register on the YPL website.

•Read with Paws, Saturday, Aug. 24, 10:30 a.m..

Children can come to the library, select a book, and read to a furry friend. All therapy dogs and handlers have been certified by an accredited organization. This program was designed originally because children feel less pressure to read to a dog than an adult so, it was meant to be a way to help struggling readers or even just encourage reading. It is open to all levels of readers and non-readers. Please register for your 15 minute time slot on the YPL website. Space is limited. If you are unable to attend, please contact the library.

•Mommy and Me Yoga, Tuesday, Aug. 27, 10:30 a.m..

Bond with your little one while exploring yoga, based on your favorite children’s books. This class includes simple breathing work, playful yoga poses, songs, games, and story time. Participants will use their imagination while increasing strength, flexibility, and balance. Registration required.

•Teen Advisory Group, Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2:45 p.m..

Teens in grades 8-12 get together to share ideas about the teen area in the library. They will help create and plan programs. This group also has opportunities to earn volunteer hours. Great chance to meet new people and have some fun and laughs.

•Artful Beginnings (Preschool), Wednesday, Aug. 28, 10:30 a.m..

Check out this new program. We will read a book then create a fun craft project. Please register. Dress for the mess.
