Recognizing that global climate change demands local climate action, the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Central Kane County invites individuals from the Tri-City Area (Batavia-Geneva-St. Charles) and surrounding region to a lively online discussion and planning session, to be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14, on Zoom. Register for the Zoom link at info@lwvckc.org, no later than April 13.
During the virtual program, participants will have an opportunity to learn more about climate issues, how they connect to our Fox Valley communities, and how participants can Spring into Climate Action by getting involved in the Climate Action Team of the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County.
“Most people view climate change as a global concern and don’t necessarily recognize the opportunity to make a difference within our own communities,” said Bill Koehl, member of the LWV of Central Kane County and the League of Women Voters of Illinois Environmental Team.
“The latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Report shows that we need to act now to avoid the worst, but what does that mean, to act now? Fossil fuel and other business interests are fighting mitigation efforts at the State, Federal, and international levels. For this reason, community members often make the greatest impact by focusing on their city councils and county boards. The influence that we have at the local level can have lasting positive reverberations at the state and national level.”
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
