Aurora concluded National Police Week with an annual ceremony that honored the current officers and those who died in the line of duty.

Mayor of Aurora, Richard Irvin and Aurora Police Chief Keith Cross led the ceremony with the mayor presenting a proclamation to recognize the week.

The mayor and the chief then presented active duty officers with special police flags and lapel pins to thank them for their dedicated service to the people of Aurora.

The ceremony concluded with the laying of wreaths in remembrance of the four Aurora police officers who died in the line of duty:

•Acting Detective Alfred Olin (#105), killed in the line of duty on October 29, 1918

•Patrolman Thompson Richardson (#113), killed in the line of duty on April 18, 1928

•Officer Brian Shields (#347), died in the line of duty on January 11, 2022

•Sergeant Kenneth Thurman (#488), died in the line of duty on January 19, 2022

“It is important to honor those who have given their lives in the line of duty as well as those who continue to serve with distinction,” said Mayor Irvin.
