Harvester history at Plano Library Sept. 16

• Knit and Crochet Group, Thursdays, 10 a.m. to noon.
The informal group works on its own projects, discusses types and colors of yarns, and helps each other with new or tricky patterns. Participants bring their own supplies. No registration is required.

• Free English as a Second Language Classes, Mondays and Thursdays, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., first class was September 5.
Led by volunteer Betty Ross, this informal group meets to develop and increase English language speaking and reading skills. Newcomers are welcome any time.

• New Life For Old Bags, Saturday, Sept. 14, 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Attendees can turn plastic shopping bags into sleeping mats for the homeless. For more information contact Ceil Carey at jackandceil@att.net or 708-846-1704. No registration required.

• Better Than The Reaper, Monday, Sept. 16, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m..
Attendees can learn about Plano’s history as the Birthplace of the Harvester when author Jeanne Valentine introduces her new book, “Better than the Reaper”. It is available at the Library for purchase for $10, or to check out. All proceeds will benefit the Library.

• Wednesday Night Book Group, Wednesday, Sept. 18, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m..
The book for September, Ballad of the Whiskey Robbe,r by Julian Rubinstein, will be discussed. The book for October, The Women in the Castle, by Jessica Shalluck, will be available for checkout. This group reads a variety of genres. New members are welcome any time.

• Drop-In Job Search & Résumé Help, Thursday, Sept. 19, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m..
An Illinois WorkNet representative will be available to answer job search questions and provide résumé assistance. Study Room B.

Kids events

• Independent Storytime for 3s, 4s, & 5s, Monday, Sept. 16, 10:30 a.m. to 11:10 a.m..
For independent three to five year-olds, without an adult. It will feature simple stories, music, movement activities, and a simple craft. Parents must remain in the Kids’ Library during the program. Registration Required. Call 630-552-2025 or stop by the Kids’ Library Desk to register.

• Read And Play Everyone, Monday, Sept. 16, 1 p.m. to 1:40 p.m.; Tuesday, Sept. 17, 10:30 a.m. to 11:10 a.m..
For ages two to six, with an adult. Kids can drop in for fun with stories, songs, and free play. No registration required.

• Me & My Grown-Up Storytime, Monday, Sept. 16, 6:30 p.m. to 7:10 p.m..
For three to four year-olds with a grown-up, no younger siblings allowed. This transitional storytime is perfect for the little one who’s not ready for independent storytime. Grown-ups will stay in the room and actively participate in the program with their child. It will feature simple stories, rhymes, movement activities, songs, and art experiences. • Independent Storytime for 4s and 5s, Tuesday, Sept. 17, 1 p.m. to 1:40 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 7:10 p.m..
For independent four and five year-olds only, without an adult. It will feature longer stories, activities, music, and a craft. Parents must remain in the Kids’ Library during the program. Registration Required. Call 630-552-2025 or stop by the Kids’ Library Desk to register.

• Legos At The Library, Tuesday, Sept. 17, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m..
For all ages, children under six must be accompanied by an adult. No registration required. Walk into a room full of Legos® and Duplos® and let your imagination guide you. Creations will be displayed in the Kids’ Library after the program.
