The informal group works on its own projects, discusses types and colors of yarns, and helps each other with new or tricky patterns. Participants bring their own supplies. No registration is required.

Led by volunteer Betty Ross, this informal group meets to develop and increase English language speaking and reading skills. Newcomers are welcome any time.
• Spirits And Séances: Victorian Spiritualism, Monday, Oct. 28, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m..
In the Victorian era, interest in Spiritualism was fueled by the deaths of more than 600,000 U.S. Civil War soldiers. Attendees can learn how mediums talked to the spirits; see photos of ghosts taken by spirit photographers, and those who set out to discredit them as charlatans.

For high school seniors and their families: A representative from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will help complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. For independent three- to five year-olds, without an adult. It will feature simple stories, music, movement activities, and a simple craft. Parents must remain in the Kids’ Library during the program.

For ages two to six, with an adult. Drop in for fun with stories, songs, and free play. No registration is required.
• Rhyme Time, Wednesday, Oct. 30, 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m..
For babies to age three accompanied by an adult. This lap-sit storytime will feature action rhymes, finger plays, songs, movement activities, a simple story, and parent-child reading time. Active adult participation is an integral part of this program.
