Yorkville Library Youth Department varied events

The Yorkville Public Library Youth Service Department will have many events this month. All events will take place at the Library, 902 Game Farm Road, unless otherwise noted. For more information, or to register, call 630-553-4354 or visit www.yorkville.lib.il.us.

• Friday, Dec. 6, 13, 20, 27, 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Drop In Story Time.
Every Friday morning, there will be story time. There will be wonderful stories read by volunteers.

• Monday, Dec. 9, 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Window Art.
Participants can help liven up the library’s windows with your art. Space is limited. Please register online. When registering please register each child separately using their name.

• Wednesday, Dec. 11, 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., BabyLapsit, Ages birth to 23 months.
Parents can sing, clap, and bounce to nursery rhymes and songs with their babies. The last 10 minutes of the program will be play time. Registration available online.

• Wednesdays, Dec. 11 and 18, 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Book Club, grades first to second.
The two-session book club will focus on easy chapter books. A light snack is provided. Please register for both programs on the YPL website.

• Thursday, Dec. 12, 10:30 p.m. or 1 p.m., Morning/Afternoon Read, ages three to five.
There will be a story and a fun craft. Morning and Afternoon Read have the same content. Please register online.

• Saturday, Dec. 14, 10:30 a.m. to noon, Chess Club.
All ages and ability levels are welcome. No registration is necessary.

• Saturday, Dec. 14, 10 a.m. to noon, Santa.
Santa will stop at the Library.

• Saturday, Dec. 14, 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. or 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., Polar Express.
Kids can enjoy hot chocolate and a snack while listening to the story, Polar Express. Children can write a letter to Santa and deliver it to him. Space is limited. Register soon.

• Monday, Dec. 16, 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., LEGO Duplo, ages two and older with a parent.
The LEGO club is for the younger set with a parent. The Library will provide the LEGOs. Children provide the creativity. Please register online.

• Thursday, Dec. 19, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., or, Friday, Dec. 20, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Literacy Centers, ages three to six.
The parent-guided literacy centers are designed to give children ample opportunity to practice the very important skills of listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

• Saturday, Dec. 21, 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., LEGO Club, ages five and older.
Unique creations to be on display in the Children’s Department. LEGOs provided. Please register online.

• Saturday, Dec. 28, appointments start at 10:30 a.m., Read with Paws.
Please contact the library at 630-553-4354 ext. 108 for a 15 minutes appointment time.
Children can come to the library, select a book and read to a furry friend. All therapy dogs and handlers have been certified by an accredited organization. This program was designed originally because children feel less pressure to read to a dog than an adult. It was meant to be a way to help struggling readers or even just encourage reading. It is open to all levels of readers and non-readers. Space is limited.

• Monday, Dec. 30, 11 a.m. to noon, New Year’s Eve Party.
New Year’s will be celebrated a bit early. Register online for the countdown to noon. There will be a light snack, crafts, and Bingo.
