Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision in Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia, ruling that federal employment non-discrimination laws protect all LGBTQ employees:
“Today’s historic ruling by the Supreme Court is a long overdue victory for equal protection and civil rights. While the fight to end discrimination against LGBTQ Americans doesn’t end here, this is a major step in the right direction.
“No American should face discrimination by an employer because of who they are or who they love, and I applaud the Court for rejecting the (Donald) Trump administration’s arguments and making that the law of the land.
“Now, it’s time for the (U.S.) Senate to pass the Equality Act so we can put an end to LGBTQ discrimination in other key areas of life.”
