Xzavier Hill, Demetrius Hill and Jordan Jones each grew a garden at home and produced their own food over the Summer. The gardening activity capped off a series of agricultural lessons that were taught to the young men over the Spring.

The celebration September 25 included a ceremony for the three participants and concluded the first year of the inaugural “Agri-preneurs” program, which aims to interest and train future black farmers for Kane County, where few such farmers, if any, exist.

Just Food, a nonprofit organization based in Batavia that is committed to building sustainable and just food systems, was a partner with the African American Men of Unity, a nonprofit organization based in Aurora, on the program.
