Loaves & Fishes Community Services invites the public to join them for a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of their new food distribution hub. The festivities will take place beginning at 3 p.m.. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 580 Exchange Court in Aurora.
Loaves & Fishes will be opening its doors to a new facility that will help serve a substantial amount of unmet need in our community. This additional location will expand Loaves & Fishes geographic service area to Kane and Kendall Counties in addition to DuPage and Will Counties. The hub will act as a distribution, storage, processing, and fulfillment center providing food to its spokes such as the Loaves & Fishes shopping market at 1871 High Grove Lane, its satellite location in Bolingbrook, as well as their home delivery program to home-bound seniors.
The new hub and spoke model will provide more options for clients to receive food. “Families will be able to get the food they need by shopping in our market, picking up food in curbside service format, and through our soon to come online ordering system.” said. Mike Havala, president and CEO of Loaves & Fishes. The new facility has substantial cold storage space that increases the capacity for fresh produce and dairy and extra sorting space for healthy food rescue. Curbside pick-up and online ordering will take place at this location.
“This opening of our new facility and evolution to a hub and spoke model are game changers for Loaves & Fishes and our community.” said Mike Havala. “Together, we are truly making a lasting impact for years to come.”
The ribbon cutting will begin at 3 p.m., with the celebration and open house continuing until 6 p.m.. Guests will be able to tour the facility, and refreshments will be served.
