Are you a fan of shows such as Master Chef Junior or Kids Baking Championship? Do you know a young person who aspires to be a chef? The Aurora Public Library District (APLD) will present a virtual program at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14 with teen chef Owen Dodson on how to make a delicious after-school treat.
Owen Dodson is an eighth grader who loves anime, playing his trumpet, and most of all, experimenting in the kitchen. Owen bakes and cooks all kinds of recipes he finds online and adapts them for his own use.
During our Microwave Magic with Chef Owen program, Owen will demonstrate basic baking techniques and walk participants through the steps of making a cupcake in the microwave. When developing the recipe for this program, his inspiration was to create something that anyone, with any level of baking skills, could put together quickly.
“I wanted to find a fast and easy dessert to make at night after a long day of activities and homework.” Dodson said. He will share more fun recipes that anyone who loves desserts and is old enough to use a microwave will enjoy.
Library assistant, Karen Pfeifer thought that having Owen as a presenter would make a great program for the community. She said, “I came across Owen’s cooking show, Owen’s Treats, on Facebook. Aurora Public Library District’s virtual cooking shows have been popular with our customers so I thought they would be interested in this one too. I know our customers will enjoy his program and being able to interact with him on Zoom.”
The Library’s virtual cooking shows can be found on the APLD Cooks YouTube playlist (www.youtube.com/AuroraPublicLibraryIL). The Aurora Public Library District carries cookbooks for children, teens and adults in physical and eBook formats. Our subsequent live cooking demonstration will follow June 13 with a virtual grilling & barbecue program.
