By Annette Johnson, member, East Aurora School District 131 Board of Education

The recent federal indictment and subsequent media coverage have understandably raised serious questions throughout the East Aurora community. I recognize the gravity of these allegations, and I do not take the concerns of our residents, parents, or taxpayers lightly.

For well over a decade, I have had the privilege of serving East Aurora, a community that means a great deal to me. Supporting our students and families has been among the most meaningful responsibilities of my public service. I understand that serving this community requires accountability, sound judgment, and respect for the public’s trust.

I want to be unequivocally clear: I maintain my innocence of the criminal charges brought against me, and I intend to vigorously defend myself through the judicial process. I take these allegations seriously, but I will not allow them to define me or erase the years of service and commitment I have devoted to this community.

I understand that these allegations raise serious questions. I recognize why our community would want answers, and I respect that. These matters deserve careful consideration of the facts and circumstances.

Because legal proceedings are pending, there are limits to what I can responsibly address publicly.

The past several days have been difficult for me and my family. I respect the right of others to express their opinions, even when we disagree. But to those who insist on demonizing me and attacking my character, I will not surrender my dignity or engage in a public battle of accusations.

My reputation may be the subject of public debate, but my guilt or innocence will not be decided at a podium. No amount of public condemnation, political grandstanding, or attention-seeking press conferences can replace true and actual evidence or serve as a substitute for due process.

To those who have reached out with encouragement and kindness, I am deeply grateful. Your support has meant more to my family and me than words can express. I also respect those who remain concerned or uncertain.

As these proceedings move forward, I will consult with my legal counsel and approach my public responsibilities with the seriousness they deserve.

I know there are difficult questions, and I understand that answers matter. I remain committed to facing this process with dignity, resolve, and confidence in my right to a fair hearing.
