The first place and designer’s choice award winning dress design of the iFashion 2018 competition is on exhibit through December at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Avenue, Batavia. The dress was created by designer Mackenzie Lewis-LaMonte, left, who is an avid reader. Her love of reading inspired her dress creation. She used book spines, covers, and pages as the fabric of the dress.
Unbelievably, the artist created the dress in just 12 hours and she is only 13 years old.
The middle school competition iFashion is presented by Batavia High School. The designers make dresses out of non-fabric materials with the help of a high school mentor.
Mackenzie may be young, but the world of fashion design is not new to her. She has been sketching designs for the past five years and is contemplating a future career in fashion design or music.
