A celebration: Galentine’s Day to snow

We have a plethora of items in news and information designated for our eyes.

Galentine’s Day is a relatively new celebration, based on women’s friendship day.

That’s two days of special friendship and love, Galentine’s Day and Valentine’s Day.

It is almost good for any item that will shake us out of the cold Winter month of January.

From Stewardship Alliance we have a report Illinois has funds available for food infrastructure.

The report: Between now and January 31 nearly $2 Million will be available for homegrown foods.

Grants of up to $150,000 per project are available and will distributed in March.

The Illinois Stewardship Alliance grant was approved by the State Department of Agriculture.

Eligible applicants include Illinois farms or cooperatives with fewer than 50 employees.

Included: Processing facilities or food businesses, local governments, and health care facilities.

Program administrators say the goal is to tap into the innovative thinking across Illinois.

Historical note: Aurora celebrated January 11 the 90th anniversary of the Woolworth fire.

The fire was the deadliest fire in Aurora history. Woolworth store was at 19-21 South Broadway.

Captains John Peterson, 48, Charles Hoffman, 37, lost their lives when they worked to stop the blaze.

A wreath and a plaque are at the site in memoriam and the plaque is a permanent fixture.

Organizers of Frosty Fest by the Fox Valley Park District offer advice for the outdoor event: Just chill.

Guests can receive value from the Red Oak snow-capped trees and crunchy trails.

Frosty Fest will be 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27 at Red Oak, 300 N. River Road, North Aurora.

The theme is “Snowmen on the Loose and guests can read how to catch a Snowman.

This year marks the sixth Frosty Fest and it never has been a Slushy Fest.

Snow was provided this year in ample form last week, so good conditions should prevail.

Whether we scoff at the cold temperatures, snow, and miserable conditions, some rejoice.

Life is a focus on perspective. It can be for good.
