“How are you?” A greeting you hear quite a lot.
Draw blanks when I answer “Compared to what?”
Of course, that will sound like an off-handed quip;
Just a “smart remark” which good manners would strip.
But, honestly I do not mean to be crude;
So here is the reason to which I allude:
If I answered “Fine,” everything would be fine;
For that’s what’s expected when using that line.
However our age differences here are but gross;
What “Fine!” means to each of us not even close.
But still I apologize…pay me no mind;
It’s just that I’m finding Old Age is a grind!
