Anthony Ortiz of Elgin shows his Purple Heart in each photo he received for Marine Corps service while deployed in Afghanistan, 2010-2011. Above, he is presented the Purple Heart from State senator Cristina Castro, 22nd Senate District, Caucus Senate Whip. Below, he receives accolades at the Elgin American Legion. Mr. Ortiz attended Elgin Community College and is a 2017 graduate of Loyola University Chicago with a bachelor of science in criminal justice and criminology. He was graduated from Larkin High School in Elgin in 2008. Following Loyola he obtained a paralegal certificate from DePaul University in Chicago.
