Artists’ murals unveiling in Aurora’s Alley Art Fest

Murals take center stage. Artists with dedication, persistence, and talent, will return to the Alley Art Fest in downtown Aurora Saturday, Aug. 28. The 11th year of the festival, promoted by Aurora Downtown, led by Marissa Amoni, will be front and center from noon to 5 p.m. and a feature will be the wide-open spaces to permit social-distance.

There will be 65 artists from the greater Aurora area. Murals will be included and receive their dedication and debut. See page 1 for progress of the mural at 210 E. Galena Boulevard in downtown Aurora. Murals, as a part of public art, have been more than acceptable contribution to public spaces in many communities throughout northern Illinois. Word has it as many of 25 murals will be completed by the opening of the Alley Art Fest.

The annual festival will include community contributions in art, jewelry, pottery, and handmade goods. Live music will be evident at noon at Millennium Plaza on Stolp Avenue with the Davenport Project, Eastern Fire Belly Dance at 2 p.m., Kovacs and Company at 3 p.m. and Cartridge B Sides at 4 p.m.. The names offer intrigue alone. There will be food vendors.

Community themes have been evident nearly 20 years in many communities, and, the thought here is that the celebration of Millennium more than 21 years ago, through planning and execution has stimulated additional community participation.

The festival in Aurora will be on the Water Street Mall and expand to Millennium Plaza and Gallery 1904, 1 E. Benton Street.

Community participation, pride, and activities, sweep into many communities, both large and small.

Just notes:

• The Summer Olympics has faded into the background, however, earlier this week the Summer Paralympic Games started for athletes in 22 sports. Adjectives such admiration, competition, determination, are brought to the surface and teach us lessons of making the best of any situation. All of us can learn valuable lessons from their spirit.

• Then in the recent situation a female Polish competitor in the Summer Games put up her second place Silver medal up for auction to help a young child. The donor of $125,000 told her to keep the medal.

Nobody should apologize for making an effort to gain improved communication skills. Words and phrases have a basis in many languages, especially from Latin, an unspoken language today. Understanding formation is helpful in clarity of expression. Taking the time cast aside clutter in language is essential. It is more easily accomplished with correct repetition. For example, the link bi means two, therefore biweekly and bimonthly mean twice each week and twice each month, respectively. Bicycle has two wheels. Tricycle has three wheels.
