Aurora Area Retired Teachers Association showcases handmade wood products at December meeting

A new year will mean a new meeting site for Aurora Area Retired Teachers Association.

Dick Schindel, AARTA acting president, announced that effective Feb. 7, AARTA will hold bi-monthly luncheon meetings at 11:30 a.m. at Lincoln Inn Banquets, 1345 Batavia Avenue in Batavia.

Schindel said, “As we bid farewell to our memories at the Gaslite Manor, we now look forward to our future luncheons at the Lincoln Inn.

“We now look forward to our Feb. 7 luncheon meeting at Lincoln Inn and making new memories with members.”

Victor Martinez will provide a music program with flutes and guitars.

Schindel added that AARTA will collect cash donations and school supplies for local students in need. Supplies will be distributed by Aurora Area Interfaith and Marie Wilkinson food pantries.

According to Schindel, AARTA members donated more than 500 winter hats, scarves and mittens that were donated to Aurora Cities in Schools in December to benefit needy students.

In the community, AARTA members will volunteer at Wilkinson Food Pantry on Jan. 16 and at Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry on Jan. 24.

Founded in 1958, Aurora-based AARTA is a nonprofit social-service group of 350 retirees from Fox Valley school districts.

Invited are retired teachers, administrators, support staff and spouses.

AARTA holds membership luncheon meetings at 11:30 a.m. on the first Tuesday of February, April, June, October and December at Lincoln Inn Banquets, 1345 Batavia Ave. in Batavia.
