Aurora Fire Chief Gary Krienitz talks with the assembled media in City Hall at Tuesday’s Aurora government emergency media briefing on the fire at the vacant and historic Masonic Temple at the southeast corner of Lincoln Avenue and Benton Street. The fire report was called in to the Aurora Fire Department a few minutes prior to 10 p.m. Monday. The last Aurora Fire Department crew left at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday. Prospects will include demolition within two weeks. The building was built solidly in 1924. Excessive damage to the building forced the building to close in 2006. It had been a site for various businesses after the Masons left the building.
