Everyone is invited to the Aurora Greenfest Saturday, May 13 for food, fun, learning how to help save our planet, and saving money on your electric bills.

Grown-ups and kids of all ages will love the 100+ activities and exhibits at the Aurora Greenfest. Our exhibitors and special attractions give everybody an opportunity to learn about how nature, technology, and even art can work together to make our community happier and healthier by helping to protect the environment. Volunteers, sponsors, and exhibitors still can sign up on our website, www.auroragreenfest.com.

Aurora Greenlights, in affiliation with The Conservation Foundation, will celebrate the 11th Annual Aurora Greenfest May 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. inside the Prisco Community Center at 150 W. Illinois Avenue and outside under the beautiful oak trees in McCullough Park. Solar panel installers, green car owners, local environmental groups, and many other special attractions will be there to strike the imagination of our visitors to help us live greener, more sustainable lives, right here in our own community.

Many organizations, including the Citizens Utility Board (CUB), Elevate Illinois, and Sierra Club will be on hand to help our visitors learn how to save money on their electric bills. Newly-passed laws, including the Illinois Climate and Equitable Jobs Act and the federal Inflation Reduction Act, have huge funds ready to help home and business owners get their own solar panels, electric vehicles, and charging stations with big rebates and incentives. Community Solar is another option if your roof isn’t right for solar panels, or if you are a renter. We want our residents to take advantage of these big money savings, with eligible families saving an average of $1,000 per year! The Illinois Solar Energy Association will be there and have the Solar House, with its own demonstration of solar energy at work.

As always, the Greenfest will include plenty of fun and entertainment. Local bands and food trucks will keep the party going all day long. Giveaways at our greeters’ tent will include Greenfest bags, reusable plastic straws, and a copy of Make Earth Great Again by community author Vernon LaVia, in a hat to match!

Our Green Car Show will have plenty of action for car lovers, even lawnmower lovers! Kids especially love the bees, bats, baby chicks, and snakes, promoting our connection with nature and the importance of habitat and species preservation. Kids are the future. We do this for ourselves and for them.

“We are excited and grateful to be back,” said Mavis Bates, festival founder and organizer. “Now more than ever it’s important that we grow and nurture our local sustainability movement. The Greenfest committee loves bringing our community together to celebrate our planet.”

Aurora Greenlights, an affiliate of the Conservation Foundation, organizes the festival. The Dunham Fund has generously agreed to be a major sponsor of this year’s festival, in accordance with John C. Dunham’s dream of “making the world a more comfortable, safer place for mankind to live and prosper.”
