The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley member Ernie Jones, Board member Pat Jones, Club secretary, and Russ George, president, were guests of the Aurora Noon Lions Club, Thursday, June 15.
Russ George spoke about the newly-formed Diabetes Club of Fox Valley, a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization, a true grassroots organization, where all money raised through dues, donations, and fundraising is used to bring about an awareness of diabetes, provide aid and education for diabetics, along with investing in research to find a cure. He stated the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley has 46 members, who meet monthly on the second Thursday of each month at the historic Gray’s Mill Estate. Social/dinner at 5:30 p.m. and meeting begins at 6:30p.m. each month.
Susan Koepke, president of the Aurora Noon Lions Club, presented a check for $1,000 to the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley, to be used for diabetes research at the UChicago Medicine Kovler Diabetes Center.
Russ George remarked about the Club’s relationship with the UChicago Medicine Kovler Diabetes Center and several milestones reached by Kovler’s research team, including a research program called “PROTECT”.
This research program allows Kovler to take a recently-diagnosed Type 1 diabetic child, between the ages of 6 and 17, and halt their diabetes for up to two years, which will allow a family to adjust to their child’s new health condition.
