Aurora parade marshals in demand

The city government of Aurora is seeking nominations for grand marshals for this year’s Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades.

A nominee must be an Auroran who has made significant contributions to the quality of life in the City, whether it in the areas of civic or social services, humanitarianism, or through personal achievements. A nominee must be a current or long-time past resident of Aurora or has brought notable distinction to Aurora. In addition, the nominee for the Memorial Day Parade must be a veteran, active military personnel, or public supporter of veterans’ causes.

The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. Friday, April 19.

The Memorial Day Parade will held at noon Monday, May 27and the Fourth of July Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 4.

Volunteers requested for Big Rock planting
Participants can help celebrate Earth Day by planting trees at Big Rock Forest Preserve.

Volunteers are needed to plant trees at Big Rock Forest Preserve, 46W072 Jericho Road, Big Rock, at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20. All helping hands are welcome. Hundreds of trees will be planted in a few hours, and helpers are needed. Holes will be pre-dug. Volunteers simply will plant the tree, tamp down dirt, add water, and mulch.

Be sure to arrive promptly at 10 a.m.. Planting will continue until all trees are in the ground or 1 p.m., whichever comes first!

Official Earth Day will be April 22.
