Aurora Police Arrest And Charge Two Men With Attempted Murder And Armed Robbery

The Aurora Police have arrested and charged two men as a result of an extensive investigation into a shooting incident that occurred on October 3rd on the city’s southeast side.

October 3, at approximately 5:48 p.m. Aurora Police responded to the 1400 block of Farington Lane for the report of a subject that had been shot. Upon arrival, officers found a 28-year-old Aurora man lying on the side of the roadway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Detectives from the Aurora Police Department’s Bureau of Investigations responded to the scene and began investigating the specific circumstances of the incident. Evidence Technicians also responded to the scene to identify and collect forensic evidence from the shooting.

Investigators conducted numerous interviews during this investigation and received great cooperation from the neighborhood and witnesses. During the course of this investigation, it was learned that this shooting occurred after two subjects travelled from the Melrose Park area to sell drugs to the 28-year-old victim. After meeting with the males, the victim reported that he was robbed and then shot multiple times.

Detectives were ultimately able to identify 18-year-old Richard M. Gaston, of Melrose Park, IL, and 19-year-old Dontae W. Parker, of Chicago, IL, as being the offenders in this case. Detectives tracked both men to Appleton, Wisconsin and with the assistance of the Appleton Police Department and the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department, both subjects were taken into custody without incident on October 14, 2020.

The case was presented to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office who authorized the following charges against both subjects:

  • Attempted First Degree Murder (Class X Felony)
  • Armed Robbery (Class X Felony)
  • Aggravated Battery with a Firearm (Class X Felony)

Both men have waived extradition and were subsequently transported back to Illinois and are currently being held at the Dupage County Jail. Bond for both subjects was set at $500,000/10% by Judge Flemming October 18. Charges are not proof of guilt. The defendants listed in this release are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial, at which it is the burden of the State to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
