Aurora Police Department Police Week Memorial, Saturday, at A.P.D. Headquarters, 1200 E Indian Trail, included an annual memorial service dedicated to the memories of Alfred Olin (badge 105) and Thompson Richardson (badge 113), the only two Aurora Police officers killed in the line of duty. Memorialized were the six retired Aurora Police Officers who passed away since last year’s ceremony, to include Officers John Saltijeral and Frank Mexin; Sergeants Duane Such and David Gumz; and Lieutenants Norman Perkins and Donald McDonald. Eleven recently-retired individuals were honored with their names added to the service walls affixed to the headquarters building: Officers Larry Flowers, Mark Johnson, Brian Hester, and Mike Auld; Sergeants Nancy Rodarte, Bill Hall, Kim Groom, and Tom Kearbey; Commander Paul Nelson; Booking Officer Sam Roman; and executive secretary Kathy McCannon. The Aurora Police Honor Guard staged formations and a gun salute during the ceremony and the Pipes and Drums of the Aurora Police performed. After the ceremony, The Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association and Aurora’s Law Enforcement Youth Academy Alumni provided food and a variety of events including face-painting, fingerprint kits. Individuals of all ages could take a close look at an array of Aurora Police vehicles on display. A video of the memorial can be seen at facebook.com/thevoice.us.
