During the interview, the Foundation team talked about its second annual Lace Up for Literacy Virtual 5K, which wrapped up September 6. Participants supported the Bridge to Hope Bookmobile campaign while enjoying a good run.

The following day, the Bookmobile got back on the road for its Fall community stops. Visitors can download the schedule on our Bookmobile page: aurorapubliclibrary.org/bookmobile!

Where’s the Bookmobile headed next?

The Bookmobile will make its way to Bookmobile at Kids Expo Day at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, presented by State representative Stephanie Kifowit. The Phillips Park Family Aquatic Center parking lot, 828 Montgomery Road, Aurora will have fun activities for children of all ages. This event has been a hit with kids in the past, who enjoyed chances to win prizes and watch awesome library tech demos!

You can see the current Bookmobile during the We Are Expecting… A New Bookmobile! campaign event and press conference in the Santori Library Atrium at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, along with an interactive preview of the new interior design! We will have a second, family-oriented design revelation at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 at the Aurora Farmers Market, 65 Water Street, south of City Hall and the Water Street Mall.

When the Bookmobile makes its way through Aurora this Fall, it brings not only fun programs and events, but literacy as well. “I love going to schools where we see many children who love getting books from the Bookmobile. […] I especially love doing my Traveling Storytimes, where I go to preschools and daycare centers. The students are so engaged and excited,” said Bookmobile services assistant, Sheri Roberts.

It may come as a surprise to some, but many, including schoolchildren, don’t have access to a library building. Bridging this literacy access gap is outreach service specialist, Laura Gartman’s, favorite thing about working on the Bookmobile: “[I enjoy] being able to bring library materials to those who can’t get to a library building,” said Gartman.

You can build a Bridge to Hope and support literacy, too, by making a donation at aplfoundationil.org/literacy-hero/. Your donation will help bring a new Bookmobile to Aurora—complete with improved Wi-Fi and other technology! Following our Bookmobile updates on social media (Facebook: @APLibraryIL, Instagram: @APLibraryIL) and spreading the word with a simple like or share can make a big impact too.

Thank you for being a #LiteracyHero!
