The City of Aurora government, in partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau, launched its 2026 Special Census initiative, targeting new construction and development within the City to establish a more complete and accurate count of total population.
The effort was prompted by the City’s significant undercount in the 2020 Census, which reported that Aurora lost approximately 17,000 residents. The reported loss in population has led to the City losing over $4.3 million per year in revenue
Those who live within the boundaries of the Special Census will receive four mailings, including two letters and two postcards, with instructions for completing the Special Census online. This Internet Self-Response Period will last from through August 24. From there, the U.S. Census Bureau will send field enumerators to homes that did not respond.
