The Aurora Township Democrats condemn the murder of George Floyd under the knee of a white police officer, while three other officers passively watched. Our country was founded on white supremacy; built upon the backs of black slaves and daily belies the words: “One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
The Aurora Township Democrats recognize and reject attempts across our Nation to disenfranchise black voters. We recognize and reject the reality that black men, women, and children do not experience the freedom and justice we proclaim is available to all. We denounce systemic racism and commit to upholding democratic policies that dismantle it in all its forms.
Many members of the Aurora Township Democrats have been present and raising our voices during the protests in our City and neighboring communities. We have decided that is not enough. We believe your voice is heard loudest at the voting booth. Today we say in one voice for all to hear: Black Lives Matter!
